I don’t know if you have experienced this during this pandemic. You want a service yet you can’t get it because it is in another town. If it is something not urgent you don’t worry. It can wait after the pandemic!
Last week I experienced this again. My husband and I had this savings account that was opened in a bank which was not in town. The only way to access the money is to go physically there to the branch. A nice way to save since the thought of transporting yourself to Nairobi to go queue over the counter is a deterrent to pick the money unless you really really, totally absolutely really need it.
So now that Nairobi is out of bounds, I called the said Bank to ask if there is a way out to get the money. Unfortunately, the only way was to go the bank- there was no option of online banking. Many like me are waiting for a way out.
Anyhow, at this time we are all looking for solutions. How can we get solutions to problems we have? Who will solve these problems? I heard a talk by a person I listened to recently that Corona can help some of us grow.
I’m curious, what new things have you done to grow during this season? I’m constantly finding ways to grow. Yesterday I had a really interesting conversation with a patient. He had gone to a traditional bone setter. Now it is easy to condemn people like him but I asked him a question. So that we don’t throw blame to him, he went to a bone setter not a witchdoctor. Hence, I asked him, “What is it that the healthcare system – hospitals or clinics- has failed or are doing wrong? Surely there is something that the traditional bone setter does that is more appealing than going to the hospital?”.
He said they are more compassionate, they don’t put cement on you (Cement is what patients call Plaster). He didn’t want plaster because it is heavy. To give Him credit, the setter did a good job putting the broken bones back in place but since it was not held well ,it healed slightly off the correct position. It is possible that if his hand was tied by being held with some sticks or the dreaded plaster it would have healed correctly. In-fact many fractures will heal if held in a way that it doesn’t move, but some can heal in the wrong position.
For me the area to grow in, is to be more compassionate and give more timely solutions to our patients. It was a powerful lesson to my team. The reality is that the caring personality of Bone setters can put many health-workers to pale in comparison.
I put it out to you, what opportunities can you take advantage of during this Corona season? You could be solving a problem. How can you grow? How do we know how to solve problems for people? You don’t know where to start. How do I be as compassionate as the Bone Setter that my patient saw, how do I innovate a provide solutions accessing your bank account in a different town during the lockdown period?
We may think that the solutions are simple because we now have Online banking and hospitals but then at the same time before this solution, the problems looked impossible. The only way to get a solution to is to ask God.
It is like how during Nebuchadnezzar’s reign he had a dream. He asked his astrologers and satraps i.e. the wisest people in the kingdom to tell him the dream and interpret it. I was an impossible task. It is like you figuring out a problem and solving it even before people figure out it was an issue like pre-mobile money times.
But when the king Nebuchadnezzar called for these chaps it was the same thing. He even ordered that they all be executed since they didn’t have an adequate response. So, Daniel was later told by one of the king’s guards, he went with his friends to ask God. In-fact they pleaded with God for an answer.
Daniel, was later revealed to the mystery and he took himself to Nebuchadnezzar. It was noted that Daniel replied, “No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries. He has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in days to come. Your dream and the visions that passed through your mind as you were lying in bed … As for me, this mystery has been revealed to me, not because I have greater wisdom than anyone else alive, but so that Your Majesty may know the interpretation and that you may understand what went through your mind.”

I need divine wisdom for everything. I’m not the sharpest person but somehow God expects me to serve him. I don’t’ have this wisdom, in fact I constantly pray that God helps me to help my patients. He is the great revealer of mysteries and He can do the same for you.
